Executive Project Management was engaged for the "Delivery Stage" of Macquarie University's new Learning and Research Centre, with a gross floor area of 17,997 square metres. Our role encompassed Superintendence of the Head Contract as well as Project Management of FF&E, the Café, the Lachlan Macquarie Room, the Automated Storage & Retrieval System, and Relocation Services.
Australia's First ASRS in a University Library
The Macquarie University Library was the first Australian university library to incorporate an Automated Storage & Retrieval System (ASRS). The system stores 1.8 million books in a 15-metre high vault, dramatically reducing the building's physical footprint by 11,000 square metres — a 38% reduction compared to conventional library shelving.
The Building
Designed by Francis-Jones Morehen Thorp, the library provides flexible study capacity for 3,000 students. The building features a striking facade, communal interactive spaces, a media wall, and rooftop gardens — creating a modern learning environment that transforms how students and researchers engage with the university's collections.
